Black out causes frustration

A 10 tonne truck collided with an 11,000 volt power pole last Tuesday in Ohio Street, cutting electricity to up to 200 residences and businesses in West Armidale.
The power went out at around 1.30pm and came back on shortly after 3pm to most premises in the affected area.
Essential Energy staff were promptly on the scene.
However, that did not ease the frustration for those suddenly left powerless, such as The Grand Hotel and a wholesaling business on the intersection of Ohio and Rusden Streets.
Licensee of The Grand Hotel, Todd Kelsall, said the power outage cost his business.
Some lunch customers were left in the lurch, while others turned away when they found the hotel in darkness.
