UNE art prize opens this Friday at NERAM

Let’s Hang It! the University of New England School Acquisitive Art Prize (UNESAP) opens at 6pm on Friday, July 22 2011 at NERAM. UNESAP is open to all schools in regional NSW and was established by the Faculty of Professions at UNE. The purpose of the prize was to promote interest in the visual arts and encourage talented young artists in regional NSW.
This is the eighth year of UNESAP and, with over 600 entries, NERAM is proud to support a project that engages young people and their families with the arts. Finalists have their works exhibited at NERAM with first prize artworks becoming part of the UNE permanent art collections. Prize winners will be announced at the opening.
Younger entrants to the UNESAP award can take inspiration from NERAM’s current exhibition Artexpress. Comprising work by 61 talented 2010 Visual Arts students from across NSW, Artexpress consists of the complete range of expressive forms submitted for the Higher School Certificate in Visual Arts and includes a screening of exciting time based works. The works reflect students’ many interests, ranging from issues of environmental, political, social, cultural and spiritual concern.
Artexpress has inspired many local schools to visit NERAM since it opened at the end of May. Students from Inverell, Glen Innes, Tamworth, Gunnedah, and of course Armidale, have visited the museum to gain inspiration and ideas for their own arts practice.
Both exhibitions close mid-August so be quick and ensure you don’t miss out on this wonderful experience. We encourage everyone to come to NERAM and be inspired by the amazing display of creativity by talented young artists in NSW.
NERAM hours: Tues – Fri 10am to 5pm, Sat and Sun 10am to 4pm. 6772 5255.
