Festival a true blue cultural hit

Thousands turned out at Westport Park yesterday, Australia Day, to celebrate our cultural roots at Port Macquarie’s inaugural 2011 Saltwater Freshwater Festival event.

The much anticipated hub of Indigenous celebrations, pride and cultural offerings had residents and visitors alike in awe of our grassroots heritage on January 26.

There was something for all the family at the event with stalls galore, hands-on cultural experiences including weaving, dance, didgeridoo workshops, and an area dedicated to children’s activities — among a plethora of activities.

Melding with a hive of cultural goings-on was music throughout the day from local, emerging and nationally renowned acts on two stages, including Neil Murray, Troy Cassar-Daley, Street Warriors and more.

Council also held its official Australia Day proceedings on site, as well as other festivities on the Town Green, in Wauchope and in Laurieton.
