Shopping centre approved

A MEETING of the Northern Joint Regional Planning Panel on Friday has approved alterations and additions to the Tweed City shopping centre in SouthTweed Heads.
The proposed $20 million development includes a new entertainment and leisure precinct with a children’s playground, restaurants, cafes and speciality retailing on the western part of the site adjacent to the existing cinemas.
In addition the works will facilitate a new retail tenancy in the eastern portion of the site by removing an existing elevated car park.
Northern regional panel chairman, Garry West, said “the proposed development is a significant economic investment for the area.”
“The proposal will allow the local community greater retail choice at an existing centre which is easily accessible by public transport and which has adequate parking facilities.”
The proposal has been referred to the regional panels because it is general development with a value of over $20 million.
