‘The Odd Tree’ to open at Armidale Art Gallery

An exciting exhibition named “The Odd Tree”, opens at the Armidale Art Gallery in the Mall at 6pm July 30, 2011, featuring the work of two Armidale artists, Patricia Petersen and Alisa Perks.
Patricia’s paintings are of various subjects inspired by nature and using different media. They have a meditative quality, reflecting Patricia’s interest in Zen Buddhism. Also showing are some delightful travel sketches from Patricia’s recent journey to Spain. Her other passion is gardens and she will be displaying a highly personal work featuring a friend’s garden in watercolour and collage.
In Alisa’s work, which represents architecture, interiors and landscapes, gouache is the preferred medium. Gouache is a fine, chalky paint which gives a luminous, opaque finish. The colours she uses are unusual tertiary schemes, representing her feelings towards the subject. The paintings are slices of life, lovingly and carefully rendered.
Alisa has exhibited numerous times in Armidale, and on the Mid-North Coast, with solo and group exhibitions. Patricia is an experienced artist, enjoying a new creative freedom since her recent retirement from the workforce.
The Armidale Art Gallery is run by the vibrant and supportive New England Art Society, through voluntary effort and the love of art.
Also opening on the same night is a mixed-media exhibition by two Inverell artists: Helena South, whose focus is on animals; and Travis Collins’ landscapes. Both exhibitions run until August 26 at the Armidale Art Gallery upstairs in the Mall (next to the Eco shop).
Come and help us celebrate the opening night of these two fantastic exhibitions. For enquiries, please phone the Gallery on 6772 9993 or go to www.armidaleartgallery.com.
