TOM Burlinson’s internationally acclaimed stage production Frank – A Life in Song is at the Glasshouse on Saturday 16 August at 8pm.
“With sell-out show after sell-out show and standing ovations for Tom’s performance as Frank, it is no surprise this is an award-winning production,” Glasshouse performing arts program manager Belinda Gibson said.
Frank premiered in Australia in 1998 to rave reviews.
After a national tour taking in major metropolitan venues in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, Tom performed his Sinatra show in Canada and Las Vegas.
On his return to Australia, Tom’s Sinatra show was again in demand. He was invited to Sydney’s Star City Showroom, where he performed a number of sell-out seasons.
Critics around the world agree, Tom Burlinson has the knack of reproducing the unmistakable timbre and gestures that were trademarks of the Sinatra style.
In this two-hour show, accompanied on stage by an eight-piece band featuring some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians, Tom croons his way through around 30 of the most popular classics of the past 60 years, by composers such as Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, and Cahn and Van Heusen. The songlist includes Come Fly With Me, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, The Lady is a Tramp, Fly Me to the Moon, Mack the Knife, My Way, That’s Life and New York New York, to name just a few.
Tom says that Sinatra may not have had all the individual elements some of the other singers of the era had, but when Sinatra sang a song, it got sung!
“I don’t try and impersonate Frank, but I sing very much in the Sinatra style. Between the songs, I chat with the audience and provide some biographical details and entertaining anecdotes, always focusing on the music Sinatra,” he said.
Tickets cost $59.90 for adults and $54.90 for Glasshouse members
