STUDENTS from Westport High School excelled at the recent athletic carnival and were recognised for their achievements at a recent formal assembly.
Twelve-year-old Samantha Hayes was the outstanding female champion, breaking records in three events – the discus, high jump and long jump, to take the 12-year title. Tahlia Sheather became the 13-years champion setting a new 800m record, while Ruby Davis is the 14-year champion. Jessica Hayes broke the 800m record and is the new 15-year champion.
Albertine Mulaba broke the 800m record in the 16-year group with Courtney Anderson breaking the triple jump record and just missing a second record in the 800m.
The boys were almost as impressive, claiming six of the 16 records broken on the day. Lincoln Bell is the 12-year champion athlete. Declan Elford broke a record in the discus and is the 13-year champion. Mitchell Stevenson was the outstanding male athlete on the day, breaking three records: the 1500m, 800m and the triple jump in the 14-year group. Max Ingram now holds the new 1500m record for the 15-year age group. Bryson Hamilton set a new record in the 800m and was crowned the 16 year champion.
