THE Deer Park Bypass is one step closer – with the first construction contract awarded yesterday.
Federal and state transport ministers announced the agreement for the $18.8 million Western Highway deviation in a joint statement.
The construction includes preliminary works on the bypass from east of Christies Rd to west of Clarke Rd in Rockbank.
Work is expected to start by the end of September.
State Transport Minister Peter Batchelor said progress on the bypass was well ahead of schedule.
The nine-kilometre bypass will connect the Western Highway at Caroline Springs and the Western Ring Rd at Sunshine West.
