FEEDING ducks in Hobsons Bay may soon be a thing of the past.
Spotswood Ward councillor Bill Baarini raised the issue of banning the practice at the council meeting on 27 June, saying feeding bread to ducks was unhealthy for the animals and left them unable to fend for themselves.
Cr Baarini suggested the council “undertake a campaign at local lakes informing residents of the negative consequences of feeding bread to our domestic ducks”.
Cr Baarini also flagged introducing a by-law banning duck feeding in Hobsons Bay as a possible solution to the problem.
