Story time sessions will be back on offer at Melton and Caroline Springs libraries from this week.
The baby and preschool story time sessions run throughout school terms and provide children with an introduction to the world of books.
City of Melton mayor Bob Turner said story time was a popular activity with families and provided a wonderful opportunity to foster a love of books and reading in young children.
“There are many benefits of reading to children – reading aloud helps children learn to read and encourages them to keep learning and discovering new things,” Cr Turner said.
“Story time can also improve your child’s imagination, communication skills and interaction with other children.”
Activities during baby story time include activities like rhymes, singing, finger plays, books and an introduction to Auslan. The 30 minute sessions are held at Melton Library each Monday at 10am and at Caroline Springs Library on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10am.
The council also offers pre-school story time sessions which run for 45 minutes and include stories, songs, rhymes, finger plays and short activities. Sessions are held in Caroline Springs on Mondays and Thursdays at 10.30am, Saturday at 11am and at Melton Library on Wednesdays and Fridays at 11am.
