FOR many people, working at a call centre is a daunting challenge.
The idea of talking to a total stranger, sometimes about very personal subjects, can be intimidating for many young adults or people re-entering the workforce.
That’s why Brimbank City Council has introduced a course devoted to this topic.
Call centre expert Anne Marie George said the course was a simple introduction to working at a call centre and would be especially beneficial for youngsters getting their first job or older people looking for a career change.
“It’s not as daunting as it seems,” Ms George said.
“People just think they are going to get abused, but it’s actually a job that can suit a lot of people.
“This course will demystify call centres.” Ms George said despite public perception, call centre workers were often people who had a real desire to help members of the community.
However she said it was important the course dealt with the best way to address a dissatisfied customer – one of the downsides of the job.
Anyone interested in taking part in the course should contact Sydenham Community Centre on 9390 3977.
