MEMBERS of Hobsons Bay (Altona) Garden Club will be showing off their green thumbs at this month’s 30th Annual Spring Show.
The club has more than 50 members from the Hobsons Bay area who share common interests in gardening and horticulture.
President of the Royal Horticulture Society of Victoria Don Rickerby will this year judge the event, while his wife Jennifer, who is also a member of the society, will open the show.
Members will enter their prized plants and produce into several categories.
Members can show off their green thumbs and baking skills in sections including cut flowers, trees, shrubs, fruit, vegetable and herbs and even a cookery section.
President of the Garden Club, Valda Graham, has been a member of the club since 2005 and president for the past two years.
“The club is a very friendly and sociable place with very good speakers and outings to different gardens and nurseries,” Valda said.
Valda and her husband are members of the club and the Royal Horticulture Society of Victoria where they have made lots of friends.
“I haven’t had the time (since retirement) to be bored,” Valda joked.
The Garden Club is inviting members from the community and prospective members to attend the Spring Show.
“We are always hoping for a big turnout and we’re very welcoming to new members,” Valda said.
Club meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at the Youth Hall on the corner of Civic Parade and Sugar Gum Drive Altona.
The Annual Spring Showwill be held on Monday 18October at 1pm at theYouth Hall. Everybody is welcome.
