I write the songs

By Natalie Gallenti
The professional composer often marvels at the changes the industry has undergone since he began writing almost 30 years ago.
And it is this passion that he will bring to the song writing workshops he is hosting in Deer Park later this month.
Mr Linz said the workshop would be the ideal preparation for anyone who had a real desire to move into song writing.
He encouraged youngsters and adults alike to get involved and said the use of computers in current popular music meant young adults would be particularly adept at creating songs.
Having worked on operas and chamber music in the past, Mr Linz is now trying his hand at working on computer programs that play music.
“There has been such a change in music over the years,” he said.
“The computer is now fundamental to writing music.”
But that doesn’t mean it has gotten easier, he warned.
“Song writing still takes place inside your headspace. So you always have the same problems.”
Mr Linz said the workshops would include listening to and analysing music and working on new ideas and different approaches to song writing. It would also cover lyrics, musical forms and verse forms.
The course will begin on 20 October at the Deer Park Hunt Club.
