CAROLINE SPRINGS is set to host its first ever relay with Relay For Life kicking off this September.
Teachers and parents from a local Caroline Springs School will head the volunteer organising committee for the relay, on behalf of the Cancer Council.
Bradley Sacco, who has been appointed the committee’s public relations officer, encouraged Caroline Springs residents and their family and friends to get on board and register a team.
“It’s pretty exciting, we want more and more people on board, more people to join teams or start their own teams, or even just to come down on the day and enjoy the festival atmosphere,” Mr Sacco said.
Relay For Life is an outdoor, overnight fundraising event that brings communities together to celebrate and remember the lives of those who have battled cancer.
Teams take turns to walk or run around a track which will be held at Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve while enjoying entertainment and other activities.
“Caroline Springs is a young and upcoming suburb and it’s a lovely way to bring us together,” Mr Sacco said. “And also to generate some hope.”
“Cancer is something that touches all of us somehow, maybe through a family member or family friend, I think this is important so we can give each other support and hope in these testing times,” he said.
“And to have that support network or safety net as a community or a as a school, I think is pivotal.”
There will be a launch night for the relay on Tuesday 29 April from 7.30pm at Westwaters Entertainment Complex.
