JASON PRICE is set to replace Tony Briffa on Hobsons Bay City Council after a vote count back for the vacant position was conducted on Thursday.
The Cherry Lake Ward vacancy arose following the resignation of Cr Briffa after six years on the council.
Councillor-elect Mr Price said he looked forward to working to support the community as a councillor.
“I am honoured to have been elected to the Hobsons Bay City Council,” Mr Price said.
“As a Convenor of Hobsons Bay Residents Association and long-term SES Altona volunteer and local Altona resident, I am extremely passionate about ensuring our community is served well by our council,” he said.
Mr Price said his community involvement over the years and regularly attending council meetings had been a good “apprenticeship towards being a councillor”.
“I am a genuine independent councillor and am continuing the footsteps of former councillors like Tony Briffa, Dick Murdoch and Leigh Hardinge,” he said.
Mr Price said Cr Briffa had been a kind of mentor to him, someone who he also worked with on several community projects, which he looked forward to continuing as a councillor.
“I intend to work collaboratively with the community and to championing their expectations and concerns about the local area and the council,” Mr Price said.
“I am excited about being elected to our council and to being a strong, independent voice for the communities of Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Brooklyn and Seaholme.”
