Gateway to fantasy

ALTONA Gate Shopping Centre’s Mosaic Moolah for Schools has headed into fantasy land this year.
After the success of the inaugural project last year, the shopping centre has engaged eight Hobsons Bay primary schools to once again create a mosaic.
Last year’s winner, St Margaret Mary’s Primary School, is in the running to retain the title of Mosaic Moolah champion.
While last year students were asked to depict what living in Hobsons Bay meant to them, this year schools have been asked to create a mosaic based on a fantasy land theme.
Students have busily worked this term to create their mosaics, which could earn them the first prize of $2000, second prize of $1200 or third worth $700.
The mosaics will be on display from Sunday 16 October when Altona Gate shoppers can cash their receipts in for “moolah” to spend on the mosaics they like best.
All prize money will be spent on improving facilities for students at their schools.
Acting centre manager Sue Schmidt said Altona Gate prided itself on being a communityminded centre, supporting more than 50 community groups each year.
“We see Mosaic Moolah as an extension of this support by helping raise the education standard and facilities for our children,” she said.
“Each of the eight schools and their extended communities are excited about the project and we are too.”
