Roads are priority

ROAD safety has been earmarked as a priority in the Hobsons Bay City Council’s proposed budget.
“Road safety is of the utmost importance to the Council and this is reflected by the funding allocated to this area in the 2007/2008 proposed budget,” the mayor of Hobsons Bay Council Leigh Hardinge said.
The proposed budget includes $1.451 million for road and infrastructure improvements.
A major allocation of the budget spending is $696,000 for traffic and parking improvements, including $490,000 to local area traffic management and $321,000 to Battery Rd works.
The council will also allocate $95,000 for the installation of a pedestrian crossing in Ferguson St opposite the Williamstown RSL.
The proposed budget also includes $40,000 on improved car parking in Sugargum Drive, Altona.
Cr Hardinge said traffic management improvements were particularly important in the West as residential growth continued throughout the region.
