MORE than 15 Bendigo Bank and Community Bank branches in Melbourne’s West have donated more than 150 gifts to children seeking refuge from domestic violence.
Women’s Health West (WHW) CEO, Dr Robyn Gregory said she was thrilled with the bank’s support and generosity.
“Bendigo Bank’s efforts in organising donations of presents for children who will be staying at our refuge over Christmas is heartening,” Dr Gregory said.
“Women and children escaping family violence often have to leave everything behind.
“This gift drive will help to alleviate the distress this causes.
Bendigo Bank State Manager Victoria, Vicki Pearce said the bank is committed to achieving the best outcome for the community.
“For a number of women and children in our community, needing a place to seek refuge from an unsafe home environment is a reality.”
In 2010-2011, Women’s Health West provided more than 1700 children and 3800 women with emotional, legal, financial and accommodation assistance to deal with the impact of family violence.
About 60 children will be staying in crisis accommodation across WHW and other family violence services in the West this Christmas.
