Pool’s recycling push

MELTON Waves has made a big splash to encourage visitors to help reduce the centres carbon footprint with the introduction of new recycling bins.

Thirteen dual waste and recycling bins have been installed at the centre.

Nine of those can be found inside with the remaining four bins installed outside.

The bins are made out of recyclable materials and educational stickers encouraging recycling have been created and affixed to the receptacles.

The venture is a joint initiative between Melton City Council and Keep Australia Beautiful.

Council estimates that up to 1400 litres of recyclables will be diverted from landfill each day as a result of the new bins.

Melton City Council Mayor Kathy Majdlik said council was committed to reducing the amount of recyclable waste that ends up in landfill.

“The Melton community already has a strong recycling ethos, regularly disposing of their glass, paper and plastics in a responsible way when they are at home,” Cr Majdlik said.

“The new bins will allow them to continue to recycle while they are enjoying the facilities at Melton Waves.”

Melton City was successful in receiving a Keep Australia Beautiful Beverage Container Recycling Grant which went toward the project.
