Bubble effect warms up

YOU have heard of the ‘ripple effect’, well here comes the ‘bubble effect’.

Sustainable Living Armidale (SLA) is working together with the Armidale and District Women’s Centre to conduct some of the ‘I Can Do It!’ curtain-making workshops.
The initiative encourages as many people as possible to help reduce heat loss from homes by bubble wrapping their windows.
“Bubble wrapping windows during winter can increase the inside temperature as much as five degrees and is a really cheap option to double-glazing, especially for renters,” Debra Mill from SLA said.
What began from a conversation between friends to find ways to keep warmer and get better control of heating costs spawned the idea.
“It is so effective I am telling all our clients about it,” Armidale Women’s Centre’s Faye Miller said.
“We have bubble-wrapped some of our windows at the centre and you can really feel the difference.”
Debra Mill from SLA was initially dubious about how effective it actually was.
“I invited a friend from New England Thermal Imaging to come and test the difference,” Debra said.
“I could not believe that the bubble wrap, combined with drawn curtains, showed no heat loss from the window at all. In fact there was no difference between my wall and the window.
According to Faye Miller it is simple to apply.
“Just cut the bubble wrap to the size of the glass, spray the window with a little water and spread it on, bubble side up – no glue or tape required,” she said.
