Golf goes high-tech

As a child of the 1980s, imagining what sport might look like in the 21st century often meant picturing high-tech experiences and innovations.

At Mulligans Indoor Golf, located at 25 Edwin Campion Drive in Monkland’s Bunworth Park industrial estate, that childhood vision has come to life.

Owners Josh and Cara saw a growing trend for golf simulators in the major cities and believed Gympie was ready for the same.

“It’s a great opportunity for the town,” Josh says, “and a chance for us to create the kind of positive, community-focused workplace we always wanted.”

With four simulator bays powered by professional-grade Trackman technology, Mulligans offers players of all abilities access to more than 200 courses from around the world, as well as driving ranges, accuracy challenges, and mini golf.

“It’s still quite physical,” staff member Michael notes.

“You can easily work up a sweat on the range.”

But at Mulligans, it’s more about creating a community than the game.

Golf is simply a linking interest.

With programs being introduced like the women-only “Ladies Chip and Sip,” inclusivity is a cornerstone of the business.

“We didn’t want a ‘blokes’ club,” Josh explains.

“It’s about creating a safe, welcoming space where everyone feels they belong.”

From young children enjoying score-boosting games to older members gaining confidence and upgrading their gear, Mulligans is transforming how people access and enjoy golf.

“Some members had barely played before, due to the pressures on a regular course,” Josh says.

“Now they’re in here regularly, improving and loving it.”

The simulator also provides pro-level feedback, giving serious golfers access to performance data used by top players worldwide.

Yet it’s just as effective for beginners.

“It helps bridge the gap between what you feel and what’s real,” Josh explains.

“It’s not a replacement for coaching, but it enhances it.”

With memberships, after-hours access, and a strong focus on accessibility—including for people with mobility challenges or NDIS support—Mulligans is reshaping the local sports landscape. “

We’re building a community here,” Josh says. “And that’s been the most rewarding part.”
